Whenever the saying “Theology” is mentioned, images of the seminary, thick theological books, Greek and Hebrew terms, as well as other highfalutin expressions belly approximately one’s mind. It appears as if “Theology” is available to the “holy ones”, the “chosen ones”, and the intellectuals. In case you are accustomed to the writings of Karl Barth, Martin Luther, Augustine, and the likes, you might be all-around inner near to the inner circle of biblical scholars.
Much more when you can speak their language and is also capable of producing an academically accepted theological work. I’ve been each student of your Bible School and Theological seminary. Both institutions have reduced the problem to have deeper insight to Church History, Systematic Theology and Biblical backgrounds. Yet even midst the teachings and classroom discussions, questions still roam i believe. Are all these true? Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m a firm believer how the Bible is the sole authority over life. I have faith that the Bible will be the Word of God. When you are a typical mortal, We are caught relating to the arena of reality and faith, and bridging the gap from one to the other is a reasonably mental and spiritual feat. Yet, I really believe, too that God’s Spirit and grace is at try to teach us beyond exactly what the mind can’t comprehend.
Theology is described as the study of God, from your Greek word “Theos” (God) and “logos” (study of). Determined by such, does is imply Theology be learned? Can God be grasped from the human mind? Can God be described by just words? If someone includes a doctorate degree in Theology, would that mean that, that person already a company grasped of God Himself?
I’ve met professors of various degrees, and I have met simple folks with simple thoughts. Yet, comparing on how they view God and express who God would be to them, the previous (most, but not all) might have a mouthful of jargon of expressions through the books… a Greek word there… a Hebrew term there… leaving their listeners at decrease of space. However, aforementioned, the easy ones, would bring practical things they’ve got experienced of God’s character. If for the kids God is a useful one, chances are they speak of how God offers for the children or has provided them good stuff.
From whom would I listen more, on the academician as well as to person who has the working experience? This is a common saying that “Experience is the better teacher.” Theory would only remain a theory unless it’s proven true by experiments or by real experience. To put it differently, Theology would just be mere notion of God, unless one has a true experience of that truth about God.
God is definitely real, but unless that reality transcends the mind which is experienced with everyday situations, the conviction of which truth would never go deep in the center and soul, and neither he or she could convince others to imagine in these truth.
