‘What is legionella bacteria along with am I at risk?’

The difficulty comes in case these tiny bacteria get trapped with your water system as well as multiply, potentially ultimately causing Legionnaires’ Disease.

According to the Federal government, there were 503 cases of Legionnaires’ Illness in the UK in 2019. It’s a life threatening illness which can be deadly – symptoms to be aware of include fever, headache, cough and shortness of breath.

While legionella bacteria can cause problems anywhere in the right conditions, several areas such as spots where water can be stored or recirculated, where the water temperature is among 20-45°C or where oxidation, sludge, scale as well as organic matters can be found, are considered to be in much higher risk.

Those people who are more susceptible to contamination, including the elderly and the ones with weakened natureal defenses, need to be especially careful.
