There are no mandatory immunisations for travellers to Tajikistan however you must be up-to-date with Typhoid, Tetanus Polio and Hepatitis A. Malaria is prevalent in certain areas of Tajikistan and we advise you to get advice from your local GP or travel clinic regarding the appropriate immunisations and preventative treatment.

It is first important to note that Central Asia has a more friendly approach towards Islam than its neighbors in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Although both women and men are allowed to wear shorts and T-shirts in cities, they should not wear T-shirts with long sleeves. Anyone who visits the mosques that are active should wear pants that are below the knees, and tops that cover the shoulders. Ladies should also wear an asymmetrical head scarf. On this trip, we will be traveling in remote locations not often frequented by tourists. The local people are very modest when it comes to their clothes and so you are likely to feel more at ease in a conservative dress code too.
Language and Religion
Tajik is the official language spoken in Tajikistan. Russian is still extensively used to communicate and for business.
A majority of people follow Sunni Islam. A small percentage of people follow the religions of Russian Orthodox, Catholicism and Buddhism.
Drinks and food
The meals on this tour tends to focus predominantly on soups, proteins and potatoes. In the remote and higher altitude places vegetables can be difficult to find. There is an abundance of dried fruits and nuts available for you to try.
In terms of alcohol, the choice is mainly limited to vodka or beer, so those looking for something different , like Scotch or Gin for example – ought to buy it duty free and take it home. Mixer drinks like tonic water can be difficult to find, though.
