Whenever the saying “Theology” is mentioned, pictures of the seminary, thick theological books, Greek and Hebrew terms, and also other highfalutin expressions will come up to one’s mind. It looks like “Theology” is restricted to the “holy ones”, the “chosen ones”, along with the intellectuals. If you’re familiar with the writings of Karl Barth, Martin Luther, Augustine, and so on, you are near inner close to the group of friends of biblical scholars.
Much more if you’re able to speak their language and is also able to produce an academically accepted theological work. I’ve been trainees of a Bible School and Theological seminary. Both institutions have reduced the problem to own deeper insight to Church History, Systematic Theology and Biblical backgrounds. Yet even midst the lessons and classroom discussions, questions still roam in my mind. Are these true? Please do not misunderstand me. I am a firm believer how the Bible will be the sole authority over life. I believe that the Bible may be the Word of God. When you are a common mortal, We are caught involving the arena of reality and faith, and bridging the space in one to the other is a reasonably mental and spiritual feat. Yet, I really believe, too that God’s Spirit and beauty reaches attempt to teach us beyond what are the mind are unable to comprehend.
Theology is described as study regarding God, in the Greek word “Theos” (God) and “logos” (study of). According to such, does is mean that Theology be learned? Can God be grasped with the human mind? Can God be described simply by words? If an individual has a doctorate degree in Theology, would which means that that, that person already a firm grasped of God Himself?
We’ve met professors of assorted degrees, i have met simple folks with simple thoughts. Yet, comparing on what they view God and express who God would be to them, the former (most, but not all) would’ve a mouthful of jargon of expressions from the books… a Greek word there… a Hebrew term there… leaving his or her listeners at decrease of space. Conversely, rogues, the straightforward ones, would speak of practical things they’ve got experienced of God’s character. If for the kids God is nice, chances are they testify of how God has provided on their behalf or has given them good things.
From whom would I listen more, to the academician as well as to one that has got the experiences? It’s a common saying that “Experience is the foremost teacher.” Theory would only remain a theory unless it is proven true by experiments or by real experience. To put it differently, Theology would simply be mere notion of God, unless you’ve got a true example of that truth about God.
God is indeed real, but unless that reality transcends your brain and is experienced with everyday situations, the conviction of these truth would never go deep in one’s heart and soul, nor he or she may convince others to trust in such truth.
