Once you think of Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking aren’t the first stuff that spring into mind, at least it was not to me. More likely pictures of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest and also the mysterious Himalaya pop to your head. So that you can imagine my surprise once i reached Nepal and found themselves rafting and kayaking in excess of Much!

When you turn up in Thamel or Pokhara (the primary touristy area’s in Nepal) you will find travel specialists all around us, and I immediately decided rafting was something I had to do inside my in time Nepal. The initial decision to make is which river to be on. Nepal offers a lot of the worlds best rivers, which range from a gently flowing river with a in the fiercest whitewater in the world. So according to your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s definitely something for anybody! The very best times to go are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run throughout the year the water will probably be at its highest, fastest, and quite a few exhilarating through these months.

Picking a company to match can establish somewhat tricky though! There are numerous travel specialists lining the streets, however, choosing one involving the other is actually impossible…Each will offer virtually the identical prices, nearly the exact same trips and promise local plumber you will ever have! However there are tons of companies out there, it’s a shame to state that are immediately after your hard earned money. You will need to locate a registered company that have safety measures in place. I ended up going with GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the company owner, several times around Thamel I trusted he would deliver what he promised, after a little bit of research I ran across he is currently the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship for that second time, I felt I needed made the proper decision and would be in safe hands.

Your journey towards the river was amazing in itself. Taken from kayaking in Nepal are greeted by a some way of life. Women working hard within the rice paddies in their saris, looking more glamorous than I possibly could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on their heads walking across the highway to school; Gorgeous mountains in private; Random Buffalo dotted everywhere in the scene to but a few things we got on the journey on the river. After Couple of hours of staring hypnotised the window we arrived at a tiny village equipped for the rafting needs. There is a little shed (rather like the one imaginable Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) for you to get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you want before starting every day about the river!

When arriving at the beginning point, I realised I needed made the most suitable decision in choosing GRG’s. There were about 20 rafts prearranged and waiting to go with various companies and ours was on your own with any safety kayakers. You can see where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!

This also was it, Maila and also the team got all of us suited and booted in everyday life jackets, helmets, (depending on the weather, splash jackets were available) and after an extremely informative safety talk i was off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash inside your face and down your T-Shirt definitely wakes you up!
